Thamarassery Churam, also known as Thamarassery Ghat Pass, is a mountain pass located in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. It is part of the Western Ghats mountain range and is a crucial route that connects the cities of Kozhikode (Calicut) and Wayanad. Thamarassery Churam is situated on National Highway 766 (previously NH 212), which connects Kozhikode (Calicut) to Wayanad in Kerala. The pass is characterized by steep and winding roads as it cuts through the Western Ghats. It offers breathtaking views of the surrounding lush green hills and valleys.

The pass reaches an elevation of around 900 meters (2,953 feet) above sea level, making it a significant elevation change as one travels from the plains of Kozhikode to the hilly terrain of Wayanad. Thamarassery Churam is known for its scenic beauty and is a favorite route for travelers heading to Wayanad. The winding roads, dense forests, and cool climate add to the charm of the journey. The road through Thamarassery Churam is narrow and has numerous hairpin bends, making it challenging for drivers, especially during the monsoon season when it can be slippery. However, it is a well-maintained road, and safety measures are in place.

This pass is of great importance for the people of Wayanad as it connects the district to the city of Kozhikode, which is the nearest major urban center. It facilitates the transportation of goods, services, and people between the two regions. The picturesque drive through Thamarassery Churam is an attraction in itself. Travelers often stop at viewpoints to capture the stunning landscapes on camera. There are also small eateries and shops along the route.

Due to its elevation, Thamarassery Churam enjoys a more pleasant climate compared to the coastal areas of Kerala. It can get cool, especially in the evenings, so travelers are advised to carry appropriate clothing. While Thamarassery Churam offers a memorable journey, it’s essential for drivers to exercise caution, especially during rainy or foggy conditions.
