Kappil Beach is a beautiful coastal destination located in the Kerala. It is situated about 6 kilometers north of Varkala, another popular beach destination in Kerala. Kappil Beach is known for its picturesque landscapes, with a combination of golden sands, lush greenery, and the merging of the Kappil Lake with the Arabian Sea. The surrounding coconut groves add to its natural charm.

At Kappil it may appear that the road is splitting the water in two. In reality, they are waters of different natures. The west is the true blue Arabian Sea and the east is Edava Narayana Lake, which takes on a greenish tinge at times. The road runs as such for about one km.  One of the best places for a bird’s view is the bridge across the lake. Not too far, the backwater drains into the sea.

The Kappil Lake, also known as Edava Narayana Lake, flows into the Arabian Sea, creating a unique and beautiful estuary. You can take boat rides on the lake to explore the serene backwaters and witness the convergence of freshwater and saltwater ecosystems.

Unlike some of the more crowded beaches in Kerala, Kappil Beach offers a relatively quiet and peaceful atmosphere. It’s an excellent place for a leisurely walk along the shoreline or to simply unwind and enjoy the solitude. The lagoon- coconut- sand strip of Kappil is a stunner.

You can even walk from Varkala beach to Kappil. There is a beach side walkway from Varkala, to start with. It is built by the government, with tourism in mind.

The beach is renowned for its stunning sunset views. Many visitors gather here in the evenings to witness the sun setting over the horizon, casting a golden hue over the Arabian Sea.

Kappil Beach is close to other popular tourist destinations like Varkala, which is famous for its cliffs, natural springs, and the Janardanaswamy Temple. You can explore these nearby attractions while visiting Kappil Beach.

While Kappil Beach is not known for extensive water sports activities like some other beaches in Kerala, you can still enjoy swimming and beachcombing. Additionally, the nearby Varkala Beach offers more water sports options. There is also the choice to take mini boats for a ride. Row and pedal boats are available for hire at the boat club.

The local shrine, Kappil Bhagavathy temple, is a regionally famous temple. The shrine is attractive, but this is a place of worship and not a sightseeing location. Darshan (worship) inside the temple is limited to Hindus.

Kerala is famous for its traditional Ayurvedic treatments and massages. You can find Ayurvedic wellness centers and spas near Kappil Beach where you can rejuvenate and relax.

Kappil Beach is known for its serene and tranquil atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and enjoying the natural beauty of the region. Whether you’re interested in the serene backwaters, stunning sunsets, or simply lounging on the beach, Kappil Beach offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
