Located on the banks of the Periyar river, Haritha Biopark at Panamkuzhy, Perumbavoor, in Ernakulam district is home to a diverse collection of ornamental chickens, fishes, foreign birds and a host of plants and trees.
Haritha bio park was dedicated to the public, and to be a place for tourists on March 27,2015 by Honorable Minister for Agriculture (Kerala State) – Shri. K. P. Mohanan, in the presence of Shri. Saju Paulmember of Kerala Legislative Assembly from Perumbavoor constituency.
A good collection of ornamental fish, including arapaima and alligator gar fish, are housed in the green campus. Black Hen, Italian Bantam, American Silkie Chicken, Japanese Onagadori Kochi Bantam, Silver Lace, White Quail, Emu, Flying ducks, Vatha, Turkey, Ducks and Kalkkuna are some of the unique attractions here. The liveliness of golden pheasant, African love birds, parrots and white gentle rabbits are a pleasant sight in the park, which is the brainchild of farmer and entreprenuer T. R Rajappan.
Fruit-bearing trees and plants are also part of the campus. Giant passion fruit, dragon fruit, Mangosteen, Poolasan, Rambutan, Jackfruit, Mango and guava trees are some wonderful collections on the campus shaded by tall trees.
The artificial forest spread across 1 acre also has a children’s park and visitors can go for fishing as well as buy fruits and plants from the bio park.
