Thiruvananthapuram: The DLT Ledgers Kovalam Marathon 2023 captivated the capital city, drawing a massive crowd of participants. This event marked a significant milestone as the first marathon in the capital city to adhere entirely to international standards. Organized by the Young Indians Thiruvananthapuram Chapter, the marathon aimed to educate the public about marine conservation and promote a healthy lifestyle. M. Vincent MLA, Nagaraju Chakilam IPS- City Police Commissioner, and Shyam Sundar, Intelligence IG, graced the occasion as chief guests.
Air Force Thiruvananthapuram Station Commander Group Captain Saurabh Shiva flagged off the marathon which started from Kovalam Grove Beach on Sunday morning. He also participated in the 5 km category. More than 1200 people participated in the events of Full Marathon (42.2 km), Half Marathon (21.1 km), 10K Run (10 km), Fun Run (five km), and Corporate Relay (five km).
The marathon was organized by the Young Indians Thiruvananthapuram chapter with the intention of sensitizing the people about climate change and pollution. The aim was also to create awareness among the society about the need to live healthily.
In Full marathon, Deepu S Nair secured the top spot in the men’s category, completing the race in 03:17:59 and Parvathy B in the women’s category, with the finish time of 05:26:36.
In Half Marathon, Rajesh Malviya bagged first completing in 01:21:17, and Nupur Gupta in female category, finishing the race in 02:06:43.
In 10K Aswin Das secured the first position with a swift time of 00:43:35 and Paragi Seth in female category finishing the race in 00:55:58.
Apart from the winners, all the marathon finishers were given medals. RFID technology chips integrated into bibs were given to participants to accurately track the finishing times in full, half, and 10K categories
