Following ten days of intensive treatment, the female students who suffered severe injuries in the CUSAT Stampede have successfully left Aster Medcity. Sheba, hailing from Malappuram, and Geetanjali Vinod, a native of Alappuzha, were officially discharged on Tuesday after receiving medical care at Aster Medcity. Their return home was marked by the presence of Ernakulam District Collector NSK Umesh IAS, who wished them a speedy and full recovery.

Sheba and Geetanjali, having bravely fought against the brink of death, were bid farewell with bouquets of flowers.

“It is very important to provide psychological support from parents, teachers, and classmates to help survivors cope with the aftermath of the disaster,” said NSK Umesh IAS after spending time with the recovered students.

Acknowledging the exceptional care received at Aster Medcity, Sheba and Geetanjali credited their return to life to the dedication of the medical professionals, including doctors and nurses, who played a crucial role in their physical and mental recovery.

Sheba, a student of Angamaly SCMS College, and Geetanjali, a third-semester electronics student at CUSAT, sustained injuries during a stampede at the Techfest on November 25. The injuries included severe damage to the lungs and liver. The medical team, consisting of Dr. Dilip Panikar (Senior Consultant – Neurosurgery), Dr. Shyam Sundar S (Senior Consultant – Neurosurgery), Dr. Shejoy P Joshua (Consultant – Neurosurgery), Dr. Suresh G Nair (Senior Consultant – Anaesthesiology & Critical Care), and Dr. Jithendra T (Senior Consultant – Anaesthesiology & Critical Care), played a crucial role in their treatment.

“Both were on ventilators initially but were shifted to regular rooms as their health improved. Sheba and Geetanjali’s resilience throughout the treatment process makes them symbols of unwavering determination. Although discharged, further treatment is necessary for complete recovery,” said Dr. Shyam Sundar S.

Farhaan Yasin, Aster India Vice President, and Dhanya Syamalan, Head of Operations at Aster Medcity, addressed the media, expressing their satisfaction with the successful treatment and recovery of the students
