Department of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery,Aster MIMS, Calicut conducted the Neonatal Surgical Skills Workshop collaborating with British Association of Pediatric Surgeons ,(BAPS.) This workshop, which was first of its kind in India brought together 22 candidates from various locations across Kerala and Tamilnadu. The participants included surgical professionals dedicated to advancing their skills in neonatal surgical procedures, contributing to the enhancement of neonatal healthcare standards in the region.
The workshop featured a hands-on learning experience, allowing participants to engage actively in neonatal surgical techniques. One notable feature of the workshop was the utilization of similar models, providing a realistic and controlled setting for practising the surgical procedures. This innovative approach ensured that participants could enhance their skills in a simulated yet authentic clinical context, preparing them for the challenges of neonatal surgery.
The workshop was distinguished by personalized supervision of the procedures. Experienced surgeons and mentors from the UK, Prof V Kalidasan (Paediatric Surgeon, Clinical Advisor in Education and Inclusion, University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, Brighton). Dr Anu Paul (Consultant Paediatric Urologist, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust London) and Dr Haitham Dagash (Consultant Paediatric Surgeon, University Hospitals of Leicester). provided individualized guidance, ensuring that each participant received tailored support to optimize their learning and surgical skill development. Dr Abraham Mammen (Head, Paediatric & Neonatal Surgery), Dr Roshan Snehith( Sr. Consultant, Paediatric & Neonatal Surgery) Dr Binesh A ( Sr. Consultant, Paediatric & Neonatal Surgery) from the department of Pediatric and Neonatal surgery, Aster MIMS, Calicut were the local faculty and back bone for the success of the workshop.
