Aster Medcity, successfully performs South India’s first Rezum Water Vapor Therapy. The innovative procedure was administered to a 55-year-old man from Ernakulam, who had been enduring excruciating pain and difficulties during urination for the past five years. The patient had been avoiding surgeries and the therapy turned out to be the best non-surgical alternative avoiding more invasive surgical procedures.
The procedure, which lasted a mere 20 minutes, is designed as a convenient day-care treatment, allowing patients to promptly return home post-treatment and minimizing disruption to their daily lives. This marks the first instance of Rezum Water Vapor Therapy in South India and the third in the country.
“The Rezum Water Vapor Therapy procedure holds the potential to transform the treatment of Benign Prostate Problems, particularly in younger males. It provides a secure and efficient alternative for patients opting for non-surgical interventions. The outcomes are similar to other non-surgical approaches such as the Urolift Procedure, but at a lower cost. Traditionally, prostate inflammation has been addressed through laser procedures and Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP). However, Rezum Water Vapor operates utilizing the natural energy stored in water vapor, or steam, to effectively remove excess prostate tissue that exerts pressure on the urethra. It is the best alternative for young patients who do not prefer surgical management. Another advantage of this treatment is that procedure could be performed in all risk categories of patients also on patients who are on blood thinners and there wont be any sexual related problems after the surgery.
