Gurudwara Pathar Sahib stands as a testament to the enduring faith and indomitable spirit of the Sikh community. This sacred place of worship, also known as Gurudwara Sahib, is not just a religious site but a symbol of love, compassion, and the harmonious coexistence of different faiths in the region.

Gurudwara Pathar Sahib has a rich history dating back to the early 17th century. It is associated with the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who is believed to have visited this place during one of his extensive journeys. The story goes that Guru Nanak, on his way to Tibet, encountered a demon who sought to test his spirituality. However, Guru Nanak’s unwavering faith and divine presence turned a potentially destructive encounter into a symbol of hope and transformation.

Legend has it that the demon, angered by Guru Nanak’s divine aura, hurled a massive boulder towards him with the intent to harm. However, as the boulder touched Guru Nanak, it miraculously turned into soft wax, enveloping him but causing him no harm. The astonished demon recognized Guru Nanak’s divine power and sought forgiveness, which was granted with humility. It was then that the demon, known as “Pathar” in the local language, transformed into a devoted disciple and embraced Sikhism.

The Gurudwara Pathar Sahib was constructed at the very spot where this remarkable event took place, serving as a reminder of the power of faith and the transformative nature of spirituality.

Every year, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib attracts a steady stream of pilgrims and tourists from various parts of the world. The gurudwara is not just a spiritual destination but also a stopover for travelers exploring the mesmerizing landscapes of Ladakh. The pristine beauty of the region, with its towering mountains and serene lakes, adds to the allure of this sacred place.

Visitors are not only drawn to the gurudwara’s religious significance but also to the heartwarming stories of Guru Nanak’s compassion and the transformation of the demon Pathar. The gurudwara serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, love and forgiveness can lead to profound change.
