Mattupetty is a popular tourist destination located near Munnar in the Indian state of Kerala. It is known for its stunning natural beauty, lush green landscapes, and several attractions that make it a must-visit place for travelers.

The major attraction in Mattupetty is the Mattupetty Dam. This concrete gravity dam is built on the Mattupetty Lake and is surrounded by lush green hills. Visitors can enjoy boating on the lake, taking in the serene views of the water and the tea gardens that surround it. Echo Point, another popular attraction in Munnar, is not far from Mattupetty. It’s known for its unique echo phenomenon, where sounds made by visitors are echoed back by the surrounding hills. The natural beauty of Echo Point is also a highlight. Located near the dam, the Mattupetty Indo-Swiss Farm is known for its specialized dairy farming. Visitors can see various high-yielding breeds of cows and can purchase dairy products as well.

Mattupetty offers trekking opportunities for adventure enthusiasts. The trails through the Shola forests and tea gardens provide a chance to explore the natural beauty of the region. The area around Mattupetty is home to diverse wildlife. You might spot animals like elephants, gaur (Indian bison), and Nilgiri tahr in the nearby forests. Birdwatchers can also enjoy spotting a variety of bird species. With its scenic landscapes, tea gardens, and the Mattupetty Dam, this region is a paradise for photographers. Early morning and late afternoon are ideal times to capture the beauty of the place. The best time to visit Mattupetty is during the post-monsoon months (September to November) and the summer months (March to May) when the weather is pleasant. However, the region is beautiful year-round.

Mattupetty is well-connected by road, and visitors can hire taxis or use local transportation to reach the destination. There is usually a nominal entry fee for boating at Mattupetty Dam.
