The Dharmasastha Temple at Pakkil is one of the eight temples established by Parasurama, the legendary founder of Kerala. Located in Kottayam district, the annual festival of Pakkil temple is the Sankranti Vanibham – a fair of household articles. The festival is celebrated in the Malayalam month of Midhunam (June/July).
Pakkil is a small village known for the temple dedicated to Lord Dharmasastha. It is believed that this temple is one of the eight temples established by Parasurama, the legendary founder of Kerala. One of the major attractions in this village is the Pakkil Sankranthi Vaanibham, an annual festival of the sale of household articles. Huge crowds are seen during this festive occasion as devotees from around the state throng the temple to buy various household articles of their choice. The vaanibham (trade) is held on the premises of the temple.
