Kalkulathukavu Devi temple is famous for its Mudiyeduppu utsavam (festival) celebrated once in 12 years and the rare art forms connected with the festival. The procession carrying madhu (honey), kulavazha (plantain tree with the fruit), bhairavi purapadu and darika vadha purappadu etc. is a grand affair here.

Kalkulathukkav Bhagavathikshetra is an ancient Bhadrakali Temple located at Vazhapalli in Changanassery, Kottayam district. During the time of Thekumkur kings, the temple was built and consecrated in Pathillam under the authority of Potis . This temple is famous for its special puja called hair cutting which is performed only once in twelve years . The temple is located on the west side of the Paschim Gopuram of Vazhapally Sri Mahadev Temple .The temple is one of the most important temples in Bhadrakali temples in Kerala .

The construction of the temple was done by Namboothiri of Changzhimuttam Math. The first dedication and shaking of the kalash was in the Malayalam year 552. Due to the Vanadurga concept, the upper part of the temple shrine is made open. A five-and-a-half-feet tall deity is located near the Thechi Chuvadi , flanked by Parshvamurthys . The deity is Bhadrakalibhavam, who was victorious in battle against Darukasura. Devi Pratishtha is Raudrabhava sitting on the neck of Devi Vethalam with a Darika head in one hand and a vessel of blood in the other hand and a sword with a Darika head in her right hand and a thorn in her right hand. Devi Pratishtha is placed facing west.

A spacious elephant enclosure has also been constructed on the western side of the shrine. The steps from the elephant enclosure lead down to the main road. Pattambalam is situated on the south side of the temple. This is where the kalameshu and song performed during the mandal takes place. Karimbana stands in Kav on the west side between Pattambalam. Mudipura is located on the north side of the temple shrine. Thirumudi made of planks is kept in Mudipura. There is no regular puja except lighting a lamp every day.
