Palaikari is situatecd in Kattikkunnu in Chempu Village, Vaikom. The spot is at where Kottayam, Ernakulam and Alappuzha districts meets. It is also the spot at where the Muvattupuzha river meets Vembanad lake. There is a large number of small islands, and to steam in the lake throughout these Islands in our Speed boat will be very much amusing. The ‘MATSYAFED Milky-way Malippuram’ and the ‘MATSYAFED Aqua Tourism Centre Narakkal are two homogeneous concepts from MATSYAFED. All of these are prawn filtration farms where public can visit for a day and enjoy a lot of task.

If you are looking for a ‘not-so-crowded’ spot to spend your weekend or for a full day picnic spot not at all far away from the city of Kochi, then Aqua Tourism by Matsyafed, Palaikari is surely the one you are looking for. PALAIKARI is one of the units of Kerala State Co-operative Federation For Fisheries Development Ltd., popularly known as MATSYAFED. It is the Apex Federation of 666 Primary Co-operatives of Fishermen in Kerala State. The Federation is one of the best organizations in the fisheries sector in India and have bagged several awards. Palaikari Fish Farm is one of the largest fish farms in Kerala . It is situated in Kattikkunnu, of Chempu village in Vaikom. It extends 120 acres alongside Vembanad lake. The Farm is famous for its culture fishes like Karimeen, Poomeen, Naran, Kara etc.

There is a long tiled pathway that separates the Vembanad Lake on the left and the fish farm on the right. As you walk down the path, the only sounds you will hear are those of waves lashing the bank, the birds chirping and an occasional motor boat on the waters. There are a couple of multi storied buildings where you can sit and take in the beauty of the place. They also double up as view points – and trust us, the view gets better as you move to the top floor. Kottayam’s trademark backwater stretches and pristine paddy fields have won over traveller’s hearts for centuries. Its lush landscape is adorned by many a picturesque picnic spot and one need travel no far to find a place to simply sit and relax in the loving embrace of nature. Surrounded by the majestic Western Ghats on the East, the mighty Vembanad Lake and Kuttanad’s rustic paddy fields on the West, Kottayam boasts of many an option for aqua tourists. You will find many quaint rivulets interspersed around the area.
