  2. Choice of liquid: The choice of liquid used for Shirodhara varies depending on the individual’s constitution (Prakriti) and any specific health concerns (Vikriti). Traditionally, herbal oils such as sesame or coconut oil are used, but other liquids like medicated milk, buttermilk, or decoctions can also be employed.
  3. The vessel (Dhara pot): A specially designed vessel with a tiny hole at the bottom is suspended over the patient’s forehead, positioned about 6-8 inches above it.
  4. Steady stream: The therapist starts a continuous and gentle flow of the chosen liquid from the Dhara pot onto the center of the patient’s forehead, allowing it to flow in a rhythmic pattern from side to side. This creates a soothing sensation akin to a gentle massage of the forehead.
  5. Duration: The duration of the therapy typically ranges from 30 minutes to an hour. It is crucial to maintain a consistent flow of the liquid throughout the session.
  6. Aftercare: After the Shirodhara session, the patient is encouraged to rest for a brief period to allow the therapeutic effects to settle. It is advisable to avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, excessive noise, or mental strain immediately after the therapy.
